The Smile Has Left Your Eyes

This is, without doubt, my favorite K-drama. I loved everything about the story, how the leads kept my attention, how Seo In-Guk and Jung So-Min were perfectly matched. The chemistry was raw and real. I loved the hugs most, how they actually behaved like a couple when they got together, the physical contact, the OSTs. The conversations they had were just heartbreaking and vulnerable, and they never shied away from showing their love for each other.

The story is about a detective, played by Park Sung-Wong as Yoo Jin-gook, who is assigned to a murder case and becomes obsessed with finding the truth. Things get complicated when his sister, Yoo Jin-kang, played by Jung So-min, falls in love with Kim Moo-young, played by Seo In-Guk, who is somehow involved in the murder.

What makes their relationship memorable is how slowly Moo-Young Seo In Guk) changes. He starts as someone who manipulates people for fun but with Jin-Kang Jung So-Min) he learns how to wait for her after work, to show up, to care. And Jin-Kang isn’t naïve; she sees the darkness in him but eventually chooses him through thick and thin. No unnecessary breakups and poor communication between them. That heartbreaking “I Love You” text he received when his world was breaking apart deserves its own fandom

By the way, this is a remake of a classic Japanese series called Hundred Million Stars from the sky, but the Korean version tightens the story and gives it a slightly different ending. No fluffy, no fill-out scenes just emotional depth and moral gray areas.

I recommend this to anyone new to Kdramland. This is a great first watch, or if you’re going through a kdrama lump, wherever everything just seems dry and boring or repeated. Are you in the mood for a little bit of tragic love, a healthy relationship, a tear-jerker, emotional depth, a little bit of red in ML, or do you simply want yourself some Seo In Guk and Jung So Min? Check it out.
