In no particular order—because ranking them would be impossible.
If you’ve ever fallen down the Chinese drama rabbit hole, you know the drill: you start one show for the plot, but you stay for the couple. Over the years, I’ve watched my fair share of cdramas, and while some fade from memory, certain onscreen pairs linger. They’re the ones whose chemistry could power a small city, whose relationships feel so real you forget you’re watching actors, and whose stories keep you coming back for more.
So here they are—my favorite onscreen Chinese drama couples, in no particular order, with all the messy, heartfelt, and slightly obsessive love I have for them.
1. Love at Night (夜色暗涌时) – Liu Xueyi & Zhu Jin
Cast: Liu Xueyi (刘学义) as Xu Ruoxi, Zhu Jin (朱近桐) as Li Yueshuang

Plot: A hotel executive and a sharp-minded executive cross paths in the most inconvenient way—through work, and through a contract marriage neither wanted. What starts as a business arrangement slowly turns into something real, as they navigate family pressure, corporate drama, and the terrifying vulnerability of actually caring.
Why this couple lives in my head rent-free:
This is one of the best onscreen couples you will ever find. I recommend this to people who just want to see something sweet. Don’t expect much from the plot—honestly, just ignore it—but the leads’ chemistry will keep you going. Liu Xueyi’s smile? Deadly. Zhu Jin’s wardrobe? Kudos to her stylist, because every outfit is a masterpiece. If you’re in the mood for pure visual romance and two people who look at each other like they’re the only ones in the room, Love at Night delivers.
2. Forever Love (如此可爱的我们) – Wang Anyu & Julia Xiang

Cast: Wang Anyu (王安宇) as Jiang Zheng Han, Julia Xiang (向涵之) as Xia Linxi
Plot: A math prodigy with a cold exterior and a warm-hearted classmate start as rivals, then become friends, then become everything. The story follows them from high school through college, through growing pains, dreams, and the quiet way first love changes you.
Why this couple lives in my head rent-free:
I discovered Wang Anyu and Julia Xiang here, and this is without doubt the best young adult series. They were too believable as a couple—I knew they would blow up. The plot isn’t much, but the chemistry will keep you glued. And can we talk about how healthy this relationship is? No stupid breakups. The female lead was so reasonable: she didn’t give the second male lead any hope, not even accepting a ride home. That might seem small, but to seasoned Chinese drama watchers, we know how annoying many female leads can be. Julia Xiang’s character was a breath of fresh air.
3. The Deepest Dream (乌云遇皎月) – Jin Han & Li Yitong

Cast: Jin Han (金瀚) as Wu Yu, Li Yitong (李一桐) as Tan Jiao
Plot: A brilliant astrophysics student and a mystery novelist meet on a cruise ship and fall for each other. But after the voyage, they both suffer from memory loss—and Wu Yu’s life is shattered when his sister is murdered. He abandons his academic future to become a car mechanic and hunt for the killer. When Tan Jiao crosses paths with him again, they discover they’re trapped in a time loop, reliving the same 15 days over and over as they race to uncover the truth.
Why this couple lives in my head rent-free:
This drama is underrated for romance watches. Those two had a wonderful relationship—actually, not only the lead couple, but the second lead had it going too. No stupid misunderstandings, because the couple was busy chasing a serial killer. When your day job is solving murders and unraveling time loops, you don’t have time for noble idiocy. That’s the kind of mature energy I live for. Jin Han and Li Yitong’s partnership feels earned, and their chemistry thrives in the midst of all the chaos.
4. Dating in the Kitchen (我,喜欢你) – Zhao Lusi & Lin Yushen

Cast: Zhao Lusi (赵露思) as Gu Sheng Nan, Lin Yushen (林雨申) as Lu Jin
Plot: A talented young chef loses her restaurant and ends up as the private chef for a wealthy, cold-hearted businessman. Through food, patience, and stubbornness, she slowly melts his walls, and what begins as employer-employee becomes a delicious, complicated love.
Why this couple lives in my head rent-free:
This shows one of Zhao Lusi’s best acting performances, in my opinion, and also among her best onscreen couples. The age-gap dynamic is handled well, and the way food becomes their love language is just beautiful. Lin Yushen plays the stern boss who’s secretly soft, and Lusi brings her signature charm without making the character annoying—a balance not everyone can pull off.
5. Fake It Till You Make It (装腔启示录) – Elvis Han & Elvira Cai

Cast: Elvis Han (韩东君) as Zong Yu, Elvira Cai (蔡文静) as Yu Fei
Plot: Two ambitious professionals in the high-stress world of investment banking keep crossing paths. They clash, they compete, they banter. And slowly, behind their carefully crafted facades, they start to see each other’s insecurities and fears. What grows is a realistic, grounded romance that feels like it could happen to anyone.
Why this couple lives in my head rent-free:
Actually, this is mainly for my girlies who prefer a more realistic show of relationships, work, life, and a little bit of those insecurities. Elvis Han and Elvira Cai gave us the best, most underrated gem. No fairy tale here—just two adults trying to figure out life and each other. Their chemistry is off the charts, but in a subtle, everyday way. This one stays with you.
6. Our Glamorous Time (你和我的倾城时光) – Zhao Liying & Jin Han

Cast: Zhao Liying (赵丽颖) as Lin Qian, Jin Han (金瀚) as Li Yancheng
Plot: A former military officer unexpectedly becomes CEO of a struggling fashion company. He teams up with a determined young designer who dreams of building her own brand. Together, they take on corporate rivals, international schemes, and their own growing feelings.
Why this couple lives in my head rent-free:
I mean, how can I mention healthy, mature relationships and not mention this drama? The leads were too mature: they talked through their disagreements and were logical. One scene that stands out is when their shop was vandalized on the same day they were supposed to take their wedding pictures. I love that they still went for the photoshoot. In real life, rescheduling means more delays—this was logical, and I loved it. Zhao Liying and Jin Han made teamwork look romantic.
7. Remembrance of Things Past (我在他乡挺好的) – Zhou Yutong & Sun Yihang

Cast: Zhou Yutong (周雨彤) as Shen Shuang, Sun Yihang (孙艺航) as Zhang Yang
Plot: A slice-of-life drama following three women in their thirties navigating work, friendship, love, and loss in Beijing. The romance unfolds naturally amid the chaos of adult life, with all the awkwardness and sweetness of real connections.
Why this couple lives in my head rent-free:
This is a slice-of-life drama with multiple female leads, so the series focuses on their lives, work, and love lives. I want to praise the lead couple’s romance storyline—it felt believable. You can actually understand why and how they fall in love, which made it a memorable couple to me. No sudden declarations, just two people who fit together over time.
8. Sunshine of My Life (若你安好便是晴天) – Xu Lu & Zhang Han

Cast: Xu Lu (徐璐) as Mo Fei, Zhang Han (张翰) as Tang Ming Xuan
Plot: A workaholic fashion CEO has sworn off love to focus on his career. He meets a passionate young woman dedicated to traditional embroidery who plans to study abroad. Despite their connection, neither is willing to change their plans—until fate (and business) brings them back together.
Why this couple lives in my head rent-free:
This drama is very underrated but is also a gem to many who love healthy, mature relationships. I love couples who communicate—oh, no unnecessary breakup. Yet for most of the drama, it was a long-distance relationship. They made it logical and didn’t fall for those insecurities that often come with such relationships. Xu Lu and Zhang Han sold the trust and patience it takes to make long-distance work, and it felt so real.
9. Fated Hearts (一笑随歌) – Chen Zheyuan & Li Qin

Cast: Chen Zheyuan (陈哲远) as Prince Feng Suige, Li Qin (李沁) as Fu Yixiao
Plot: During a fierce battle between the Su Sha and Jinxiu kingdoms, Fu Yixiao—a skilled archer—turns the tide by shooting Prince Feng Suige with a single arrow. But shortly after, she falls off a cliff and loses her memory. Fate brings them together again when Feng Suige, himself being pursued, encounters the amnesiac Fu Yixiao. Suspicious of the circumstances, he keeps her close, and together they embark on a journey to uncover the conspiracy between their two nations. As they travel, their initial enmity slowly transforms into something deeper .
Why this couple lives in my head rent-free:
Actually, the reason this one made it to my list is how they handled the amnesia storyline. I love that the male lead had valid reasons not to believe that he and the female lead were lovers—they started as enemies, after all. I love that everyone around him told him the truth (in most cdramas, they always keep it a secret). And what I love most is that even if he didn’t remember their past, his reflexes would not hurt her when she pushed him to test it. That tiny detail—his body remembering what his mind forgot—was everything. Fated Hearts filmed from July to October 2024 and is expected to premiere on iQIYI .
10. The Princess Weiyoung (锦绣未央) – Tiffany Tang & Luo Jin

Cast: Tiffany Tang (唐嫣) as Li Weiyoung / Feng Xin’er, Luo Jin (罗晋) as Tuoba Jun
Plot: During the chaotic Northern and Southern Dynasties, Princess Feng Xin’er of Northern Liang watches her entire family get massacred by the corrupt General Chiyun Nan, who frames them for treason. Forced to flee for her life, she encounters Li Weiyoung, an illegitimate daughter of Northern Wei’s Prime Minister, who saves her but dies protecting her. Xin’er assumes Weiyoung’s identity and enters the Prime Minister’s household—only to discover it’s connected to the very family that destroyed hers. Disguised as Weiyoung, she navigates palace intrigue, deadly conspiracies, and the treacherous politics of Northern Wei while seeking justice for her family. Along the way, she crosses paths with Tuoba Jun, the compassionate and righteous grandson of the Emperor, who becomes her unwavering ally and eventually her greatest love .
Why this couple lives in my head rent-free:
Okay, let me start by saying this is a classic for a reason. I watched this one years ago, and I still think about them. What I love most about Weiyoung is that she doesn’t wait around for anyone to save her—she’s out there plotting her own revenge, surviving assassination attempts, and using her intelligence to climb her way up . She gets bullied, she gets framed, she gets thrown into one dangerous situation after another, but she never gives up. That’s the kind of female lead I live for.
And Tuoba Jun? He’s the greenest flag. He falls for her early and stays by her side, no matter how many times she tries to push him away because he’s technically her enemy’s grandson. He’s kind, he’s loyal, and honestly, his smile alone could end wars . The way he looks at her? Unmatched.
Here’s a fun fact that makes this couple even more special: Tiffany Tang and Luo Jin met on this set and fell in love in real life . They got married a few years later, so the chemistry you see on screen? That’s real. You can’t fake that kind of connection . Every time I rewatch it now, I catch myself smiling knowing that their love story didn’t end with the last episode.
Yes, it’s 54 episodes. Yes, there’s a lot of scheming and backstabbing and people dying in each other’s arms . But Weiyoung and Tuoba Jun’s journey? Worth every minute. If you want revenge, romance, and a couple whose real-life love story makes the drama even sweeter, this one is for you.
Final Thoughts: Why These Couples Stick With Me
What do all these couples have in common? They communicate (for the most part), they respect each other, and their chemistry doesn’t rely on dragged-out misunderstandings. Whether it’s the electric tension in Love at Night, the wholesome youth of Forever Love, or the mature realism of Fake It Till You Make It, these pairs reminded me why I love Chinese dramas in the first place.
If you haven’t seen some of these, I hope you give them a try. And if you have—tell me your favorites. I’m always looking for my next obsession.
